Volley Against Violence Atlanta launched on April 15, 2016

VAV-Atlanta-01The Chattahoochee Foundation and The Atlanta Youth Tennis and Education Foundation are two local non-profit organizations that both aim to empower underprivileged youth to learn the sport of tennis. These two organizations joined forces with the Atlanta Police Department, Atlanta Police Athletic League, and the Judicial Circuit District Attorney to launch the Volley Against Violence program on April 15, 2016. Volley Against Violence (VAV) is a Community/Police Engagement initiative designed to utilize tennis to bring youth and police together for physical activity, informal mentoring, relationship building, and the seemless delivery of life-skills curricula. Children, police officers, and other community volunteers meet together on Friday nights from 6-8 p.m. for a fun night of pizza and tennis. On court games, relay races, and small group meetings help create a non-confrontational environment where youth and police, together with parents and advocates, can address issues that cause tension between police and neighborhood youth and mitigate factors that lead youth to become gang involved.
